Kirche San Gian, Celerina

The present church building dates back to 1478 and stands on top of the remains of its predecessor, a late medieval Roman church, the structure of which can still be found in the smaller of the two towers in the northern facade. After the period of upheaval known as Bündner Wirren, San Gian was no longer used as a preacher’s church, but as a sepulture church. It was last restored between 1973 and 1980.
