Interclub with Nadja Heuberger

As in almost every sport, golf clubs compete annually for the Swiss championship title. The Engadine Golf Club is represented by a total of six teams in six different categories in the Interclub Championship. Nadja Heuberger is captain of the A2 team, which is the EGC's ‘best’ team. Here, she reveals why it's worth becoming part of the Interclub ‘family’.

  • How long have you been in the Interclub team?

  • I'm playing in the Interclub for the 11th or 12th year this year... phew, I'm getting old.

  • What made you decide to join the Interclub team?

  • I was asked to represent the Engadine Golf Club when I was 15, in 2023. Since then, the Interclub Championship has been a fixed date in my calendar.

  • How does the club support you in your efforts?

  • The Engadine Golf Club pays for our hotel, organises branded T-shirts at a special price and pays each player a portion of their expenses. Compared to other clubs, this is very generous.

  • Do you always have enough players who want to take part, or would you welcome more registrations?

  • It varies from year to year, as some of our Interclub teams consist of young players, some of whom are still studying. However, over the last 2-3 years, things have settled down a bit and we know who we can call on if someone can't make it. Nevertheless, we are always happy to welcome new players who would like to join us!

  • Some people probably don't sign up because they feel they're not good enough. Why should they sign up anyways?

  • Since Interclub often takes place on away courses, your handicap is secondary, so doubts are unnecessary. The format is individual stroke play and foursomes in teams of two. Every stroke counts and anything can happen 😅😉. In addition to the sporting aspect, the Interclub weekends are always very enjoyable. Friendships are formed, even between the different clubs. For example, this winter I met a player from Leuk in Saas Fee and a player from Kyburg in Appenzell... it's like one big family!

  • This year's Interclub Championship will take place on the weekend of 9 and 10 August. How is your team preparing?

  • It always varies. In some years, we have organised Interclub training sessions with our pros, this year we are preparing individually. The most important thing is to play a few rounds with your foursome partner before the tournament so that you get to know each other and are more familiar with each other's distances.
