Matteo Bormolini - in action all year round on the Engadin golf courses

Whether in the snow or under the Engadin summer sun, Matteo Bortolini has been keeping guests happy in our beloved valley for 6 years. In summer he works as a greenkeeper on the golf courses, in winter he prepares the cross-country ski trails - two completely different jobs in one and the same place, in the fresh air and surrounded by unique nature.

Although the two jobs differ in many ways, Matteo's experience on the cross-country ski trails helps him in the summer and vice versa. In particular, as a greenkeeper he has a high level of sensitivity for the fairways and greens hidden under the cross-country ski trails. “When I prepare the trails that run across the golf courses, I always try to make the tracks in the less problematic areas so that the course remains as undamaged as possible.” In addition, he always makes sure that he lays a 20-centimetre thick layer of artificial snow, if possible, before he goes to work with the cross-country ski machine.

Matteo loves both of his jobs and it is the result after the work is done that drives him all year round. “When I see at the end that I have groomed the trails satisfactorily or look at the freshly mown fairways from above, it makes me proud.” In this context, he draws attention to another similarity between his two activities. When preparing cross-country ski trails and maintaining golf courses, you have to draw the straightest possible lines with the machine. The work in summer is a little more physical and strenuous, but he has company. “We have a lot of fun with our team colleagues, which makes the tiredness fade into the background.”
